Potted Colour Mix

The main requirements of potted colour plants are rapid, but not elongated, growth, freedom from disease, irrigation at intervals that are as long as possible and excellent shelf life at retail nursery centres. This mix is based on composted and cured pine bark, to which all trace elements and starter major nutrients have been added.

*A time proven formula.

Native Mix

Some Australian native plants and some exotic species that are native to soils of low phosphorus status require a potting mix that has a very low phosphorus content and a high ability to supply iron. Our Low-Phosphorus Native Mix is guaranteed to meet their requirements. However, most Australian native plants need more phosphorus than this for normal growth. Our 'normal' Native Mix, while having the same excellent properties of the Low-Phosphorus mix, also contains a good base level of available phosphorus.

*Individual grower requirements catered for.

Advanced Tree Mix

Advanced trees remain in containers for a number of years. Their growing medium must remain stable for these extended growing periods. Our advanced Tree Mix has been engineered from Pine Peat, composted bark and coarse deep-mined sand specifically to satisfy this need. We add all trace elements, a balanced supply of major nutrients and a controlled-release fertiliser to suit individual crops.

*Tailored to individual grower needs.

Premium Rose Mix

Our rose mix has a high air-filled porosity, so that drainage is excellent and the plants are protected against soil-borne diseases. This mix is based on composted and cured pine bark, to which all trace elements and starter major nutrients have been added. Many of Australia's leading Rose growing nurseries continue to produce excellent results with flower, carpet, and standard varieties using a formulated mix engineered to their individual specific requirements.

*Extra magnesium has been added to prevent spring yellowing.

General Mix

Our General-Purpose potting mix is produced from composted and cured pine bark of various size gradings, Pine Peat and deep mined sands, to which are added minerals, trace elements, slow release fertiliser and wetting agent.  It is produced with a higher air-filled porosity for winter production than for summer production.  It meets all the criteria of the Australian Standard for Potting Mixes, Premium Grading.  Two pH ranges (5.2 to 5.4 for 'acid-loving' plants and 5.8 to 6.0 for others) are produced.  These mixes are suitable for many of the plants produced in Australian nurseries and have given excellent results for many production nurseries over the years.  However, some plants have specific requirements that are best provided by specially formulated mixes, as are now listed.

Seedling and Plug Mixes

The shallowness and small size of most of the containers in which seedlings are grown make it essential that the physical properties of mixes for them must be suitable and be consistently produced within very narrow tolerances.  For rapid early growth without stretching, the mix must have minimal nitrogen drawdown and not too much phosphorus.  Our seedling and plus mixes are engineered with these requirements in mind.  They are based on thoroughly composted and cured Pine Peat, to which all trace and major nutrients are added as required to give healthy plant growth.

Propagation Mix

The basic physical requirements for propagation mixes are a moderately high air-filled porosity, combined with a high ability for the mix to maintain the water content of the cuttings.  They must be quite acidic and have only a minimum supply of major nutrients.  They must of course be free from root-rotting pathogens.  Our propagation mixes are produced to these specifications from thoroughly composted and cured pine bark and deep-mined sands, but mixes can be tailored to individual grower requirements.

Customised Mixes

The mixes listed above are standard formulations.  Most nurseries require specific preparations customised to their individual requirements.  Our data files include mixes for citrus, olives, hydrangeas (both blue and red flowered), passionfruit, Sturt desert pea, conifers, orchids, grapevines, bulbs and more.

The technical team is only too happy to discuss and engineer a formulation to suit your growing requirements.
